Close The Rock Ridge speech team had three finalists out of our 13 speakers at the State Meet Saturday. They were as follows: 6th-place medalist Sophie Statsman in Serious Interpretation of Drama; and our two Senior captains, 4th-place medalist Amara Carey in Great Speeches and 4th-place medalist Kirsten Rothenberger in Extemporaneous Reading. The Wolverines also had two speakers who were just one point away from the final round: Azalea Ray (11th grade, Extemporaneous Speaking) and Ellie Norvitch (9th Grade, Serious Interpretation of Prose). EVELETH â The Rock Ridge speech team continues to excel this year and is now getting ready for the Section 7A meet after a pair of recent victories. The Wolverines captured the Grand Rapids Finale âtraveling trophy and went on to capture the 7A North Subsection contest two weeks ago. The âtraveling trophy now has a new home at Rock Ridge after the varsity speech team took top honors in the competition against 27 area schools, including powerhouse programs Walker, Bemidji, Denfeld and Hermantown. The team now competes Friday in the Section 7A contest, which is hosted virtually by Duluth Marshall. Each team will speak remotely via a Zoom-like competition platform. ....
