Preparations are underway across the state, with warnings of destructive winds of more than 150km/h heavy rain and flash flooding expected across the region from Lucinda to Ayr. The state s southeast, however, is also on alert for severe thunderstorms later today, which could bring hail to the region. Byron Bay s popular Clarkes Beach was smashed by strong winds, heavy rain and a king tide and most of the beach was washed into the ocean, in the lead-up to the Christmas holiday season. Loading Holiday goers in Byron Beach watched as large sections of Clarkes Beach washed into the ocean, taking a local with it. The man emerged unharmed. ....

An extreme weather system that has dumped in excess of 500mm on parts of southeast Queensland in the past 24 hours is expected to peak early tomorrow morning. Hundreds of calls for help have been made as wild weather continues to lash southeast Queensland but emergency services warn the worst is yet to come. There have been reports of landslides in northern NSW while warnings have been issued for extremely dangerous surf conditions. Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan and his Queensland counterpart Greg Leach will provide an update on the conditions and response activities will provide an update on conditions at 3.30pm. ....
