The Dauphin County Commissioners recently awarded $6.1 million to municipalities, schools and organizations in the county.
The funds are from the gaming dollars from Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in East Hanover Township and available through the casino local share revenue program.
The Dauphin County Gaming Advisory Board presented recommendations to the commissioners for recipients of funding. Those recommendations were made following application and hearing processes. The Gaming Advisory Board said it considered and prioritized public interest, emergency and human services, transportation, and infrastructure ....

Abuja Sewage Treatment Plant runs on generators for 13 years

Residents of Abuja, the nation’s capital face a possible outbreak of an epidemic that could spell doom, if the Federal Capital Territory Sewage Treatment Plant, located at Wupa District is allowed to collapse.
The plant which was designed to treat the sewage from phases one, two and three of the Federal Capital City (FCC) is currently working at only about 25 per cent installed capacity due mainly to inadequate power supply and low sewage inflow.
Vanguard investigations showed that the plant which was commissioned by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been running on generators since inception.  The generators which were meant to be stand-by electricity sources now provide power for the plant 24/7. ....

SIERRA VISTA — Several items were passed by the City Council Thursday evening, but it was the last point of business that brought some to tears and elicited a standing ovation from the crowd — a farewell to departing council members Gwen Calhoun and Kristine Wolfe.
Each council member said a few words to their exiting colleagues. But when it was Mayor Pro Tem Rachel Gray’s turn, she tried to hold back the tears but wavered when she addressed Calhoun. That prompted Calhoun to also shed some tears and turn her back to the public for a few seconds. ....
