Although this form of psychotherapy isn’t new, the shadow work technique is quickly gaining popularity amongst Gen Zers and millennials.
Jungian psychology is having a moment, owing to the TikTok-famous, self-published The Shadow Work Journal. But mind detritus becomes the stuff of great art in the hands of poet Adrienne Chung.
Shadow work is a concept developed by Swiss psychoanalysis Carl Jung in the 20th century. It’s never gone away, but it’s come “out of the shadows” on TikTok — videos on the platform have more than 2 billion views, with many people using the accompanying book, "The Shadow Work Journal."
