Man rescued from abandoned copper mine shaft in Corinth, Vermont

There was no immediate word on the condition of a man who was rescued after falling about 150 feet into an abandoned Vermont copper mine, officials said Monday. Just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, rescue crews were called to the Eureka Mine on Pike Hill in the town of Corinth after receiving a report that the man had fallen into a mine shaft. By the time first responders arrived the man had been stuck for about two hours. His name was not released, but he was said to be about 30 years old. Rescue crews from Vermont and New Hampshire used a series of ropes and pulleys to lift him from the shaft. He was flown to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
