Ge took a plea deal and was sentenced last month to 42 months in prison.
Yang’s case had been delayed previously by the pandemic, including a continuance his own attorney was granted before being vaccinated because of the health risks involved in entering a county jail where infection can spread easily to discuss trial plans with his client.
Defense lawyer Charles Truncale didn’t dispute Schlesinger’s ruling but said Yang shouldn’t have to wait behind bars indefinitely if the pandemic drags out further. ....

A Chinese national and two co-defendants have been sentenced in connection with an attempt to use false export information to export maritime raiding craft and military-model engines through fraud to China, and in violation of Unites States law.
Ge Songtao, a 51-year-old from Nanjing, China, pleaded guilty to the charges on November 2, 2020, and was sentenced on July 14, 2021, to a three years and six months’ sentence in federal prison. Ge conspired “to submit false export information through the federal government’s Automated Export System and to export maritime raiding craft and engines to China fraudulently.” The attempt at export was “in violation of U.S. law.” Ge agreed to $114,834.27 in an administrative forfeiture, since he had arranged for this much money to be wired to an American manufacturer for the purchase of the engines and raiding craft. ....

A Chinese national was sentenced to three years and six months in a federal prison Wednesday for conspiring to illegally export maritime raiding craft and engines and information to China with false export information, the Department of Justice said in a press release.
Ge Songtao from Nanjing, China, pleaded guilty on Nov. 2, 2020, the press release said. He was the chairman of Shanghai Breeze Technology.
The court also ordered Songtao to “forfeit $114,834.27, the amount caused to be wired to a U.S. manufacturer to purchase the raiding craft and engines,” the press release said.
In 2018, Songtao wanted to figure out the supply source for the combat rubber raiding craft that has an engine unlike any technology made in China, the press release said. The engines can operate using gasoline, diesel or jet fuel and launch “from a submerged submarine or dropped into the ocean by an aircraft.” ....
