The School of the Osage Indians had one of the biggest in-season turnarounds in 2022. Osage dropped its first three games of the season, allowing more than 40 points to Jefferson City, Moberly and Blair Oaks. By season’s end, the Indians were the second-best team in the Tri-County Conference and lost in the district title game to the eventual Class 3 state runner-up. Osage, which has lost its first two games this season, wouldn’t mind seeing a repeat of last year, with one exception: Turning the tables one week earlier in tonight’s conference opener against the Blair Oaks Falcons.

Stability is starting to return to Jefferson City football. Steadiness at the head coach position is something Jays’ fans grew accustomed to with Pete Adkins heading the program from 1958-94. But after Ron Cole, Tony Grosso and Ted LePage filled the position from 1995-2017, Jefferson City cycled through Terry Walker and Scott Bailey in a matter of three years. Entering the Jays’ season opener at 8 p.m. today against the School of the Osage Indians at Adkins Stadium, Jefferson City has found some stability in head coach Damon Wells as he enters his third season.
