U.S. Attorneys say the group filed 491 fraudulent claims in 19 states from February 2020 to January 2021 with the intention to steal nearly $4.9 million. The defendants filed false unemployment claims, using stolen identifications of people unaware of the activity.
They also are responsible for a portion of the nearly $1.5 million in illicit unemployment dollars pilfered from the state governments. Each forfeited $92,000, as part of their plea deal.
