volcanic eruption rising. live from our studio in singapore. this is bbc news. it s newsday. welcome to the programme. there s growing concern about the dire state of hospitals in gaza. the biggest, al shifa, is not functioning at all that description coming in the past few hours from the world health organization. this map shows all of gaza s hospitals marked by the red dots the un says 20 out of 36 are no longer working. at al shifa, premature babies have had to be moved out of their incubators, and there are reports that gaza s second biggest hospital, al-quds, has run out of fuel. the bbc has managed to reach a surgeon inside the al shifa hospital in gaza. here s some of what mar wan abu saada had to say about conditions there. at al shifa, out here we cannot see, everything is in total darkness, really. without electricity, without fuel, without water, even without food. and still, we are having more than 600 injured people. and we are suffering now with ou ....

the two largest, al shifa and al-quds, have said they are suspending operations. staff claim israeli bombardment plus lack of fuel and medicine, mean patients including babies could die. israel s military said it has offered to evacuate newborn babies, and claims hamas has command centres close to the hospitals. our first report is from lucy williamson. the new map of gaza can t be trusted. safe places becoming empty spaces overnight. this was bani suhella near khan younis this morning in the south of gaza. our correspondent there heard people screaming for help under the rubble. israel has told people to move south, to avoid the fighting in the north. but the search for shelter here is still a deadly gamble of daily life. samira fled south from the bombardment at al shifa hospital in gaza city. translation: we thought the hospital was a safe place, but it wasn t. - if we had stayed there another five minutes, we would have been killed. my son got injured, so i left him ....

israeli air strikes have continued across southern gaza today. our correspondent on the ground says there ve been eight air strikes in and around khan younis today, with 23 people killed and around 200 injured. israeli forces have repeatedly told palestinians to leave northern gaza for the south. the bbc s rushdi abualouf witnessed one of the air strikes while he was buying supplies for his children in the village of bani suhaila. four bombs fell around him in quick succession. he took these pictures, and says a block of about ten houses had been destroyed. rushdie told us he saw four dead bodies, and more than 100 injured people in that particular incident. it comes as the us national security adviser, jake sullivan, said washington does not want to see firefights in hospitals in gaza. conditions in the two biggest are said to be desperate with patients, staff and the displaced all trapped. one hospital, the al-quds medical centre, says it has now ran out of fuel and ....
