On Dec. 6, junior nursing students in Ohio University’s Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBP) course presented their final projects for the fall semester.
Ohio University hosted an Opioid Workforce Expansion Project earlier this year. The annual conference seeks to combat the opioid epidemic through education.
“We’ve learned that, during the pandemic, the opioid epidemic really got worse, not better. It did not halt, and it will be several years before we know the final numbers,” Dr. Sheerlena Buchman, an assistant professor in Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions said.

Dr. Sherleena Buchman has been recognized for her groundbreaking work in VR and healthcare by the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS). MNRS named Buchman as this year’s recipient of the Nursing Education RIG Early Career Award.
This early career award named Buchman as an “early investigator.” MNRS cited the local and national attention for the innovative work Buchman carried out by implementing CINE-VR, a type of VR that uses actual video, not animation, into her work on opioids and opioid overdose response.
