PALMER — The City of Palmer recognized several community members for their dedication to making the area a better place to live during the annual Celebrate Palmer public picnic and
âWeâre gonna have all hands on deck,â Palmer Bar co-owner Sherman Leifer said. He said this is their second event, and first time hosting a musical guest as the new owners of the iconic bar in downtown Palmer. Leifer and his cousin Wesley Artz acquired the Palmer Bar from the previous owners, Mary Lou Coddington and Jack Burnett, in July. âIâve lived in Palmer forever, since 1985. Itâs a piece of Palmerâs history. I heard about and thought it would be kind of cool. I thought of my cousin. Heâs been in the bar industry forever. We looked at it and decided to dive in,â Leifer said. âItâs just exciting⦠to have a piece of Palmer thatâs been around with such great history. Weâre looking to keep it the same. One of the big things I tell everyone is, âI want it to feel the same in 16 years when the bar turns 100 years old as it does today.â Thereâs gonnaâ be some changes but I want it to feel the same.â
