Sameer Africa has issued a profit warning anticipating a more than 25 percent decline in full-year profits for the year ending December 2022.
Expatriates and multinational firms’ workers who are paid in dollars are the biggest winners from the weakening of the shilling.
The shilling closed trading at Sh116.1 to the dollar, compared to Tuesday’s Sh115.99 and has depreciated from Sh113.13 at the start of the year.
The shilling has weakened to a record low against the dollar, pressured by higher demand for the US currency by importers of petroleum products and other items such as industrial supplies.
