Rancho Bernardo centenarian has had high-flying adventures
Longtime Rancho Bernardo resident Joseph Opperman recently became a centenarian. The Manhattan, New York, native and his wife, Shirley, met on Valentine’s Day 1960 at Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel in the Catskill Mountains in Liberty, New York. Opperman said he had gone there with friends and Shirley was there with girlfriends to dance. He asked her for a dance and they reportedly “danced all night ... it was love at first sight,” according to his recollection.
