Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, who became the oldest woman sharpshooter in the world after taking up the sport in her 60s, died on Friday after battling COVID-19.
She was 89 and was being treated at a hospital in Meerut since April 26.
"Mera saath chhoot gaya, Chandro kaha chali gayi (She has left me, Chandro where have you gone?)," her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar, who is also one of the oldest female sharp shooters, wrote on her Twitter page.
Tomar, who was nicknamed 'Shooter Dadi', was hospitalised after complaining of difficulty in breathing. Tests revealed she had contracted the highly contagious virus that is causing over 3,000 deaths daily in the country.

Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, who became the oldest woman sharpshooter in the world after taking up the sport in her 60s, died on Friday after battling COVID-19.

Maharashtra on Friday reported 62,919 fresh
COVID-19 cases against 66,159 on Thursday and 828 deaths. The overall caseload has reached 46,02,472, while the death toll rose to 68,813. As many as 69,710 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day. Now, there are 6,62,640 active cases in the state.

On the eve of Maharashtra Day, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday addressed the state and listed all the steps the government is taking in order to contain the second wave along with preparations for the third wave. Stating that the Bombay HC had asked the state government if a strict lockdown was needed, Thackery said, "I will ask you, but I don't think that situation will arise. Cases have now plateaued, but we are not over the phase. If we had not put these restrictions, there would have been 9-10 lakh active cases. The cases have now plateaued."

On Wednesday, the B-town diva, who completed 15 years in the Hindi film industry, stirred yet another social media storm after she compared herself to superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Kangana's debuted Bollywood film 'Gangster' hit the theatres on April 28, 2006. And on the completion of 15 years of her journey in Hindi cinema, Kangana said that she and SRK are the "biggest success stories ever."
