The Sidney Township Board invited a local sanitation businessman to Monday’s meeting as township officials consider whether to place a garbage service proposal on a future ballot. Treasurer Corinda Stover said she contacted four sanitation businesses but only Cory Baker of Baker Sanitation in Fenwick responded. Baker attended Monday’s township board meeting to introduce himself, sharing how he has worked in the garbage industry since he graduated from Belding High School, including working for Pitsch and Sidney Sanitation (until the latter was bought out by Granger about eight years ago). Baker has owned Baker Sanitation for the last five years. ....
After voting to disband from the former Sheridan Community Fire Department, the Sidney Township Board is now signing on for one year, “so we can maybe work some stuff out,” according to Supervisor Terry Peterman. However, confusion remains. The township board signed the contract under the impression that they would have a seat on the Fire Authority Board, but new Fire Authority President Andy Ross told the Daily News that the township will not have a seat on the board. ....
