The Law Commission will share its plans for holding simultaneous elections with a high-level committee led by former president Ram Nath Kovind. The committee has requested the Law Commission's views on how simultaneous polls can be conducted in the country. The committee has also written to political parties, asking for their opinions on the matter.
Former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi has stated that if there is no national consensus on conducting simultaneous elections, it should not be forced upon the people. Quraishi also expressed his hope that the present Election Commission will take swift and neutral action against violations of the model code of conduct in the upcoming assembly polls.
