Former Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba and ex-superintendent general Dr Thobile Mbengashe came under the spotlight as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) announced on Monday that the controversial R10m scooter ambulance tender had been declared unlawful and invalid. The Eastern Cape health department awarded the tender to Fabkomp Pty Ltd to deliver 100 scooter ambulances.

The university deregistered Mabuyane in March after it found there were irregularities in his admission to the master's degree programme. Mabuyane's deregistration was linked to the scandal involving the university's former public sector economics professor, Edwin Okey Chikata Ijeoma. The ANC provincial integrity commission (PIC) has cleared Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane of any wrongdoing in the scandal relating to his deregistration from the University of Fort Hare. The university deregistered Mabuyane in March after it found there were irregularities in his admission to the master's degree programme.

Edwin Ijeoma was released on R5 000 bail by the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court. Ijeoma, accused of stealing a university vehicle, was arrested on 27 April. He is also the subject of a Hawks investigation in connection with a case of fraud. Former University of Fort Hare professor, Edwin Ijeoma, was released on R5 000 bail by the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). Ijeoma, accused of stealing a university vehicle, was arrested on 27 April. He will return to court on 18 June, said NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani. Ijeoma is also the subject of a Hawks investigation, in connection with a case of fraud, worth R5 million.
