Singapore – “We are not the same. We do not have hostess(es),” said a group of family karaoke businesses in their petition to be unclassified as nightlife operators and allow them to operate with safe management measures.
A petition through change.org was created by nine family KTV owners requesting authorities to give them a separate classification from the KTV lounges currently linked to the largest active Covid-19 cluster in Singapore.

Nightclubs and karaoke outlets in Singapore hope to make some noise soon

July 12, 2021
Mr Frank Per, who owns Sing My Song Family Karaoke at Paya Lebar Quarter Mall, hopes his business, now an F&B outlet, can pivot back to being a nightspot soon.

It has been more than 15 months since nightclubs and karaoke outlets went silent, forced to shut after coronavirus infections first surged in Singapore.
There was some hope in November last year when a pilot programme was mooted for two nightclubs and 10 karaoke outlets to reopen, but this was put on hold in January after a spike in cases.
The nightlife industry has been brought to its knees because of the pandemic, but there is some hope now with Singapore's vaccination programme ramped up and community infections down to a trickle.

The recent rise in Covid-19 infections in the community has stopped the music before even the first note is struck - at least for the time being.
The pilots to allow a limited number of selected nightclubs and karaoke outlets to reopen with stringent safe management measures this month have been deferred until further notice, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Home Affairs announced yesterday.

SINGAPORE: Pilots for the reopening of nightclubs and karaoke outlets that were supposed to start this month have been deferred until further notice, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a joint press statement.
“We have seen an increase in the number of community cases in Singapore recently, of which some cases are currently unlinked and under investigation,”

KTV outlets may now opt to be exempted from Covid-19 test

Selected karaoke outlets may be allowed to reopen without their customers needing to take a Covid-19 swab test as part of the pilot programme, says the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
But these outlets must observe a different set of rules such as a maximum group size of two and a ban on liquor consumption, an MHA spokesman told The New Paper last Tuesday.
On Nov 6 last year, KTV outlets - closed since March 26 - were told that some could reopen under a three-month pilot programme, but customers must test negative on either the antigen rapid test or the polymerase chain reaction test at least 24 hours before the end of their KTV activity.
