A group of 30 Union College students and alumni will begin their 26-hour drive to Fort Myers, Florida, on Sunday to spend a week helping those affected by Hurricane Ian.
Director Michele Ray said the call to action was simple as they teach students the importance of service.“These people have lost everything, they don’t have anything in their homes," Ray said. "You have to think of the kids. So we thought “we are a school so it makes sense for us to focus on the kids and the babies. The want to serve is important to Ray as her family received help during the Nebraska flooding a few years back.“Back in 2019, when we had the historic flooding, my husband and I looked at each other one day and we said “We really need to do something to help,” Ray said.
