Bangladesh to import 550,000 mt of rice soon to boost stock

The government has decided to import 550,000 metric tons of rice to give a boost to the country’s current food stock.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave its nod in principal to a proposal in this regard moved by the Ministry of Food reducing the tender submission tenure for this.
As per the proposal, the Directorate General of Food now can invite international tender giving 10 days’ time to submit tender for the supply of the bulk rice instead of the normal time of 42 days.
“The committee took the decision to facilitate the emergency import of rice,” said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, who presided over the meeting. ....

A former treasury economist whose purported $400m hedge fund collapsed and is now the subject of a Serious Fraud Office probe is expected to soon learn his fate.
Penrich Capital, a boutique fund run out
of the Cayman Islands by Christchurch man - and one-time London investment banker - Kelly Tonkin, suddenly imploded last March as liquidators were appointed and investors scrambled to quantify and recover their losses.
The SFO opened an investigation into Penrich in April, and an update to investors from Cayman liquidators R&H Restructuring said this probe was into the activities of the former director of the company, Mr Kelly Tonkin and the SFO had advised them that those investigations are due to be finalised shortly. ....

Vadodara: Soon, you may spot a 250-kg hippopotamus splashing in the waters near the Statue of Unity (SoU). The Sardar Patel Zoological Park has decided to bring in a 15-month old baby hippopotamus to the jungle safari. A special enclosure will be made for the baby hippo named ‘Bhim’. Dr Rajiv Gupta, managing director, Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd (SSNL) recently tweeted about ‘Bhim’ and thanked the Prime Minister’s office for the gift. Sources in the park said that the hippo is being brought from Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh. “It will take some time to complete work on the enclosure. The baby hippo will be brought in once the enclosure is ready,” sources added. ....
