HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - It’s no secret a lot of businesses have suffered during the pandemic. In south Huntsville though, there’s a lot of growth.
More than $90 million of private investments have been made since the beginning of this pandemic in the South Huntsville area alone.
Hayes Farm construction is going as planned and more than 85 percent of the space has already been leased.
About one dozen businesses have also opened their doors during the pandemic.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - If you have driven down Bailey Cove Rd. recently, you’ve probably noticed the new South Huntsville Library, the 30,000 sq. ft. building will provide a lot more than your average library.
“We’ve got something for everybody of all ages, it is a place to be, I can’t wait,” said Patsy Ducote, the manager of the soon-to-be former Bailey Cove Library.
Right now, Ducote and her staff work in a library that used to be a hardware store and is desperately in need of more parking.

Over the New Year’s weekend, Edith Ann’s Taste of Home owner Lee McGucken took a hard look at the books.
During December, amid the pandemic, Edith Ann’s, a beloved South Huntsville diner known for their breakfast, only did $8,000 in sales. He compared that to December 2019, when they did $36,000 in sales.
“I just looked at that and was like, ‘Wow,’” McGucken tells me. “I wasn’t making enough money to pay the bills …

2020 was a rough year for restaurants-- and that’s putting it mildly.
The year started out with the usual ebbs and flows of a competitive dining industry. In Birmingham, for example, Pihakis Restaurant Group was preparing to eventually shutter its location of Mile-End Deli in the city’s downtown area and transition the building to another one of its concepts: a Hero Doughnuts & Buns.
