AS MORE than 115 people have lost their lives across Hampshire to Covid-19 this week, Southampton’s top medics have come together to remind the public that the new virus variant “remains a huge threat”.
Dr Sarah Young, GP and Board Member at NHS Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group, said “we cannot let our guard down now”, with Dr Debbie Chase, Director of Public Health at Southampton City Council, warning hospitals are under pressure and infection rates are “still high”.
“The new variant of the virus remains a huge threat to our communities,” Dr Chase added.
Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the public there is evidence to suggest the new variant of Covid -19 - that emerged in the UK in September last year - is more deadly. ....
