The evening saw a wide variety of awards given out, celebrating the work of the volunteers and partners at the station. Dahlia Jamil, Chair of Art Asia since 2002 and Member of its Board for more than 25 years, took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Olivia Pinkney, The Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary. Northam Community Centre, Dr Neeru Sodha and Team, Nagendra Mishra and Eastleigh and Southampton Community were all honoured in the Covid-19 awards which recognises those who have gone “over and above” to help the local community. Itchen Sixth Form College’s Sam Hammond, Richard Tauntons Sixth Form College’s Lauren Bevis, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College’s Charlotte Ginger, Oasis Academy Mayfield’s Kacey Scorey and Cantell School’s Rudi Funnell were all awarded a College and school award. ....
Southampton Community Connect was set up earlier this year to connect and engage local people across Southampton. Throughout the pandemic, the group has been operating in Weston, which they say is “one of the most socially and economically deprived areas of the city”, to help get food supplies to people who need it. On average, the volunteers are supporting 500 people each week through their services. Having helped families throughout the pandemic the group, founded by Hany Rahimi and Alex Ivancevic, is now looking to aid the younger members of the community by providing toys over Christmas.
