Canton professor given Chancellor's Award for Excellence for creative endeavors

CANTON - A SUNY Canton professor who has painted his career using the Adirondack landscape as a canvas just received SUNY-wide accolades for his creativity.
Matthew J. BurnettMatthew J. Burnett, a Canino School of Engineering Technology faculty member who teaches in the Graphic and Multimedia Design program, received the SUNY Chancellor s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
Professor Burnett s art is a product of his rural Adirondack upbringing, said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. His work highlights the natural beauty of upstate New York and infuses his passion for environmental protection and activism. His art is not observed, it is experienced. ....

SUNY Canton selects new dean of Science, Health and Criminal Justice

CANTON - SUNY Canton has named Michelle L. Currier, Ph.D., as the new dean of the School of Science, Health and Criminal Justice.
Currier serves as an assistant professor in the school where she teaches courses in the Criminal Justice Department and led the development of the new Bachelor of Science in Forensic Criminology degree. Prior to her faculty position, she was the director of the college s Southworth Library Learning Commons.
Dr. Currier has demonstrated the ability to effectively manage multiple leadership roles and additional responsibilities throughout her career that will serve her well as the next dean, said SUNY Canton Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Peggy A. De Cooke. She has evidenced a leadership style that includes listening, collaboration, encouragement and data-driven decision making. ....

Dedicated educator, administrator and student advocate ending 32-year career at SUNY Canton

CANTON A dedicated educator, administrator and student advocate will be retiring from SUNY Canton following a 32-year career.
Molly A. Mott, Ph.D., who is currently the college’s Associate Provost and Dean of Academic Support Services, announced her retirement beginning April 1, but she will continue working on a part-time basis as part of a bridge for the next year.
“Dr. Mott supervised several extremely important areas of the college,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “Each of the areas she oversees excel in their services to our students because of her collaborative leadership and transformative thinking. She’s been a leader in fostering college-wide cultural shifts that embody a student-focused experience.” ....
