The 79-year-old had been serving life in prison without the possibility of parole after trading secrets with Moscow for diamonds and more than $1.4 million in cash.
What Hanssen did was terrible. But in terms of betrayals of trust by FBI personnel, Hanssen has competition from James Comey, Peter Strzok, and Chris Wray.
