Southampton city council drops Spartans Gym case

The “passionate gym member” denied the accusations against him and stressed he was neither the owner nor manager of Spartans.
He was due to stand trial in March but the case against him was dropped.
Throughout the investigation, confusion has surrounded who owns and manages the gym in the Northam area of Southampton.
Papers on the Companies House website listed Dean Little as the Company Director of Spartans Gym Southampton Limited.
He was appointed as a director on July 1 last year, based on a file received by the Government agency.

A PROBE into a gym that opened during lockdown is ongoing.
Legal action against Spartans Gym, which opened during lockdown, has been dropped, but the business in Millbank Street could still be prosecuted, according to the city council.
Confusion surrounded who owns and manages the gym in the Northam ward of Southampton.
But documents uploaded to the Companies House website list Dean Little as the Company Director of Spartans Gym Southampton Limited.
A file received by the Government agency, states that he was appointed as a director on July 1 last year.
Josh Gosling, who previously described himself as a “passionate gym member” had been accused of opening the venue during lockdown.

'Deliberate rule breaking': City barber boasts lockdown breach as he travels from home to home

A SOUTHAMPTON mobile barbers has been slammed after owners boasted about still operating during lockdown and flouting the breach on social media.
Cerenbeli Grooming, owned and run by Muss Cerenbeli, is a mobile Turkish Barbers offering services from “the comfort of home”. 
However, unlike hundreds of small businesses across the city, it has continued to operate and defy the lockdown rules. 
Gloating on social media to more than 700 followers, the barber has posted multiple times on his Instagram page – cerenbeli_grooming – encouraging people to book appointments and showing off his travels across the city.

Spartans Gym in Southampton shut for 'covid breach'


Spartans Gym was forced to close in line with coronavirus restrictions on Tuesday.
City council officers alongside police raided the building in Millbank Street after unsuccessful attempts to speak with people inside.
Ten people were reported for summons and each was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £200.
Chief Inspector Ricky Dhanda said: “We attended Spartan gym on Millbank Street, Southampton at 3.49pm on Tuesday to assist our colleagues from Southampton City Council in relation to the ongoing breach of the current Health Protection Regulations.
“Ten people were reported for summons and issued with a fixed penalty notice of £200 each.

Police continue to monitor Spartans Gym in Southampton during lockdown


"We will continue to carry our patrols in the area to address any issues that are identified to us in a public place.
On Tuesday morning, an Echo reporter counted more than a dozen visitors, some arriving in groups of three, and nearly all not wearing any protective face coverings - such as masks.
Southampton City Council says it is working with Hampshire Constabulary to monitor the business.
It added that it is aware the gym is open.
Spartans Gym did not respond to the Echo's request for comment. However, speaking to a national newspaper, a spokesperson for the gym said those entering the site in full gym gear were "working".

A SOUTHAMPTON gym facing legal action for allegedly breaching lockdown rules appears to be flouting covid restrictions again.
Based in Millbank Street in the Northam part of the city, Spartans is reported to have opened during the November lockdown.
Despite the city being classed as Tier 4, gym-goers could be seen walking in and out of Spartans Gym earlier today.
In November, Josh Gosling appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court accused of opening the gym during the second coronavirus lockdown.
He pleaded not guilty to two charges of failing to comply with reasonable instruction given by a relevant person in England.
Gosling, of Tickner Close, Botley, previously represented himself and protested his innocence.

Spartans Gym was hauled before court in November charged with two counts of failing to comply with reasonable instruction given by a relevant person.
