Police in Kabale district are hunting for unknown criminals that murdered Special Police Constable (SPC) Garalious Barykabu, 58, while he guarded the Electoral Commission (EC) offices on Makanga hill Kabale town.
Kigezi sub-region police spokesperson Mr Elly Maate said the incident happened Wednesday night at an unspecified time as the deceased’s body was found tied with ropes inside the security guard’s room at the main gate of the EC offices in Kabale town. ....

Despite concerns on recent happenings, stakeholders have expressed optimism on the operation of the South-west Security Initiative, codenamed Amotekun, James Sowole writes
When the six governors of the South-west states conceived the idea of establishing a regional security outfit over one year ago, it was meant to bridge the gap created between them and the security apparatus of the Federal Government.
The governors, who are Chief Security Officers of their respective states, were concerned by their inability to have control over the existing security system despite mounting insecurity in their domains.
They were concerned that due to the fact that all the security agencies, were established by the Federal Government, heads of various agencies in states, have to take instructions in most cases from the centre before responding to calls from their host, chief executives. These often resulted in delays in making quick critical security decisions. ....

An operative of the Oyo State Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps, identified as Ibrahim Ogundele has been apprehended for allegedly shooting a police special constable in Oyo town area of the state, Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered.
A credible source hinted our correspondent that the bullet fired by the Amotekun operative hit the special constable, identified as Fatai Yekini on his left thigh, but he was promptly rushed to the General Hospital at Owode area of Oyo town for medical attention.
The alleged shooting was said to have occurred while the Police and Amotekun operatives attempted to dislodge some youths who organised a street carnival at Sanga are of Oyo town on Saturday. ....
