Following the first week of the Pfizer vaccine’s release to several hospitals in San Antonio, more vaccines are on the way this week, including doses of the new Moderna vaccine, according to data released Friday by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
Dozens of hospitals, urgent care clinics and H-E-B pharmacies in Bexar County are slated to receive 30,200 doses of the Moderna vaccine this week. The vaccines will be reserved for health and other frontline workers. ....

Comal County awaits COVID-19 vaccine news; two deaths added

Comal County is waiting for news on when the COVID-19 vaccine might arrive locally, health officials told commissioners on Thursday morning as the countyâs death toll from the pandemic climbed to 141.
Cheryl Fraser, director of public health, told Comal County commissioners during their Thursday meeting that both deaths were people from New Braunfels, with one a woman in her 80s who passed away on Dec. 14 and the other a man in his 70s who passed away on Dec. 1. The county has added 13 deaths to its data in the month of December so far.
The county added an additional 72 cases of the virus to its tally, with 49 of those cases confirmed and the other 23 probable. The county has now reported 5,576 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived locally in March.Â ....

Spring Woods HS student takes exam in hazmat suit; family claims Spring Branch ISD isn't taking pandemic serious

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) A Spring Branch ISD family said the district isn t taking the pandemic seriously enough. The family wanted the district to waive a requirement that virtual learners take some of their final exams on campus.
Mason Kalkofen and his parents, Margarita and Karl, told Eyewitness News he showed up to Spring Woods High School Wednesday in full personal protective gear. They worried about him contracting the virus on campus and spreading it to his mother who is at high risk and could suffer severe medical complications.

Houston City Council passed an ordinance Wednesday that tightens regulations for businesses storing hazardous materials within city limits.
The amendments come in part as a response to the Watson, Grinding & Manufacturing plant explosion that jolted Spring Branch on January 24, killing three and damaging hundreds of homes.
The blast is believed to have originated from a leak in a propylene tank, and it shattered windows, knocked homes off of their foundations and was felt miles away.
