Floodwaters continue to rise in the aftermath of a burst dam in the Russian city of Orsk in the Ural Mountains. Investigators have launched a criminal investigation into the dam's construction.
Flooding is the biggest under-insured climate risk in Canada, said Victor Adesanya, vice-president of insurance at DBRS Morningstar, especially during the spring thaw.
The two men were swept away by floodwaters on May 1 during a rescue mission in St-Urbain, Que., northeast of Quebec City.
The current snowpack in the mountains is 10 to 25% above normal for this time of year, but the risk of flooding in Miles City remains low.
“My guess is there’s at least $200,000 just in (road) gravel we need to replace in Shields Valley, let alone all the work we need to do to the bridges.”
