Pets not disposable commodities; fine for abandoning animals to rise from Rs 50

Abandoning pets, especially dogs and cats, is a punishable offense under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 in India. However, the fine for this offense is only Rs 50, which is often not enforced. Dumping foreign breed dogs, in particular, has become a disturbing trend in the country. To address this issue, authorities need to crack down on illegal dog breeding farms and impose stricter punishments for abandoning animals.
