Wirral Mayor Tony Smith receives his vaccination at Woodchurch Leisure Centre The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral have paid tribute to NHS staff and volunteers after receiving their COVID-19 vaccinations on Wednesday. After waiting their turn to be called by the NHS, Councillor Tony Smith and Mayoress Barbara Smith, attended the vaccination centre at Woodchurch Leisure Centre. They join the 410,623 people who had already received their first vaccine jab across Merseyside and Cheshire by the end of January. The Mayor or Wirral, Councillor Tony Smith, said: “I am so grateful to all the wonderful staff and volunteers who guided us through the process and administered the vaccine; it really was efficient and friendly and is a great testament to the incredible teamwork by the NHS, volunteer marshals and Wirral Council.
The UK s coronavirus vaccination programme is in full swing on Merseyside More than 200,000 coronavirus vaccine jabs have been administered by healthcare workers across Merseyside and Cheshire in the fight back against Covid-19. New NHS England data shows that from December 8, 2020 to January 17, 2021 a total of 174,592 first dose jabs were delivered across the two counties, plus a further 26,628 quantities of the second booster dose. Of the first dose jabs, 80,336 were given to people over the age of 80, with 94,226 given to other priority categories. But more over 80s have received the second dose - 17,638 - compared to 8,990 under 80s, who have now had both injections.
