The crash occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at mile marker 190 in Wright County, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. Henry Smith, 45, of St. Cloud was killed in the crash.
Emmer, who currently serves as the No. 3 Republican in the House, won the nomination in a fifth round of voting, lawmakers said.
Reps. Kevin Hern and Mike Johnson, both of whom had lost to Emmer in a closed-door party vote earlier in the day, declared that they were relaunching their bids for the speaker's gavel after Emmer dropped out.

Drug-collection events are set for St. Cloud, Alexandria, Brainerd and Montevideo, according to a news release.
