RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat reiterated support for reservations, stating discrimination still exists in society. His comment comes after Telangana CM accused the BJP of trying to change the Constitution by 2025 as per RSS ideology, targeting SC/ST/BC/OBC communities.
Data submitted in the Rajya Sabha also revealed that the representation of persons from SC, ST and OBC communities declined in the first seven years of the Modi government.
The plea says that the forward caste population is only 6% of the country's population, yet 10% of seats in government educational institutions and jobs will be provided to the 'poor of the forward caste' due to the EWS quota.
With the passage of the ordinance, which was in accordance with the Justice Nagamohan Das committee report, the reservation for the SCs will increase from the existing 15% to 17%. For the STs, it will be 7%, going up from the existing 3%.
"The Justice Sharma Commission has recommended that Paharis, Bakerwal and Gujjars should be included for ST quota benefits," the Union home minister said, addressing a rally in Rajouri.
