As Kansas faces an ever-worsening teacher shortage, some districts are trying new strategies to build more excitement and enthusiasm around teaching.
The Wichita school board set a salary range of $300,000 to $325,000 for the new superintendent. Consultants hinted that this search will be more open than the previous one, after which the Kansas Attorney General ruled that the school board violated the open meetings law.
By a margin of about 2-to-1, Wichita school district voters opted to ditch the current hybrid voting system, which has been in place since 1994. Beginning next year, Wichita school board members will be elected in a fashion similar to city, county and state representatives.
The Wichita Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously for the propsal.
