The Indian Supreme Court has halted the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) investigation into the recruitment of School Service Commission (SSC) teachers and set May 6 as the date for further hearing of the West Bengal Government's plea against the Calcutta High Court decision that declared the entire panel of 2016 SSC teachers' recruitment null and void and cancelled appointments of 24,000 teachers and non-teaching staff.
The High Court implicated the state government for involvement in the recruitment scam that has dominated the state’s politics over the last few years.
The state government, which has moved the Supreme Court challenging the order, is also mulling paying salaries to the teachers and non-teaching staff until the top court gives its verdict, an official said.
