Access Now's knowledge about ongoing Apple threat notifications sent to people who may have been targeted by state-sponsored spyware attacks
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology (IT) may summon Apple representatives after several opposition leaders of the 'INDIA' bloc received warnings of 'state-sponsored attack' from the company. After the allegations, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that an investigation into the issue would be conducted.
Apple Tuesday clarified that it does not attribute the threat notifications sent to several iPhone-wielding politicians from the opposition parties and journalists, to any specific state-sponsored attacker. Apple added that it is unable to provide information about what causes the company to issue such threat notifications as that may help state-sponsored attackers to adapt their behaviour to evade detection in the future.
