A hearing slated for Friday is off for now, attorneys say, after defendants in a lawsuit challenging zoning at the proposed site for a Pilgrim s Pride rendering plant agreed not to seek rezoning of the property on Steele Station Road until after a public hearing in August. An order issued late Thursday afternoon said the hearing had been continued by a joint motion from the parties. It was rescheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 10. The lawsuit pits Dynamic Collision and more than 20 property owners in the Steele Station Road area against the City of Gadsden, the Gadsden Airport Authority and Pilgrim s Pride. The plaintiffs contend property there, zoned for light industry, should not be used for the construction of a rendering plant. The matter is set for trial in October, ....
The Gadsden Airport Authority will hear presentations from prospective purchasers/leasers of an 88-acre parcel of land on Steele Station Road at its next regular meeting, at noon Aug. 20. GAA Chairman Harry McLendon said Tuesday that the meeting likely will be in Meeting Room 1 at The Venue, and will be followed Aug. 27 by a meeting for public comments and discussion. McLendon said the authority is asking that presentations be kept to 45 minutes or an hour. The GAA has heard from two potential buyers/leasers Pilgrim s Pride, for construction of a rendering plant; and the Etowah Community group, which made an alternative offer to buy or lease to property to develop an industrial park for light industry. ....
