据中共央视画面显示，习近平等中共现任、退休高层步出城楼，胡锦涛站在习近平左侧，满头白发。随后，习近平在大会上发表讲话。
中共退休高层胡锦涛、温家宝、李瑞环、贾庆林、张德江、俞正声、曾庆红、吴官正、李长春、贺国强、刘云山、张高丽等人现身。
外界注意到，江泽民、朱镕基缺席。
在6月28日晚举行的中共百年党庆大型文艺演出活动上，江泽民、胡锦涛、朱镕基、吴邦国、温家宝、宋平、李岚清、罗干等中共退休常委缺席。
时政评论员李林一表示，江泽民没有露面，显然是身体已经差到一定程度，事实上江也没有参加2天前的晚会。在海外，从去年开始，江泽民病重临死的传闻一直不断，但是在最近袁隆平出殡仪式上，江还出现在悼念名单中。
