A New Mexico woman was sentenced to 16 years in prison Monday after abandoning her newborn son in a dumpster in January of last year.
The sentence came down after a jury convicted the mother of attempted first-degree murder and child abuse causing great bodily harm.
“You have given yourself a life sentence of knowing what you did with your child, and you have also given your son the same life sentence."
The Hobbs teen guilty of throwing her newborn in the trash will now serve 16 years incarcerated with two years suspended. The father of the baby, Stephen Astorga, said her son finally got justice.
