A PROLIFIC offender has been jailed after he stole more than £650 worth of items from two shops.

David Gibney was convicted of the offences following a trial at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court. The court was told the defendant had been ranting at the taxi driver in Barrow and became annoyed that the driver was not listening to him. Gibney then punched the taxi driver George Ng in the back before hitting him in the face. Police later caught up with the 54-year-old in another taxi and arrested him. Toby Lee O’Neil followed another motorist out of Dalton and onto the A590 angered by an incident in the town. He then overtook the other driver and launched the car jack from his window. It missed the driver and any other vehicles but could have caused serious injury, a court was told. At Preston Crown Court, O'Neil was sentenced to six months in a youth detention facility and banned from driving for two years and three months.
