Avebury Parish Council has welcomed plans to create a strategy to manage the influx of Summer Solstice revellers next year.
Hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people packed on to the Ridgeway for this year’s celebrations causing traffic and parking chaos along the A4.
Police blocked access to that section of the Ridgeway, but cars and vans parked along the A4 and in nearby villages and farm tracks.
Marlborough police say they took the difficult decision to prevent further access in order to maintain public safety and prevent potential damage to nearby farmland.

Hamilton tattoo parlour refuses to close during third wave of COVID-19

Kryptonian Ink, a tattoo shop in Hamilton, is ignoring public health measures and staying open despite warnings from public health officials that it could encourage the spread of COVID-19.(Bobby Hristova/CBC)
A Hamilton tattoo parlour on the Mountain has shrugged off lockdown measures and hasn't stopped operating despite being under investigation and facing bylaw charges.
This comes despite a third spike of COVID-19 cases, and repeated warnings from public health officials for people to stay physically distanced, wear masks and only shop for the essentials in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

Nearly 300 people have signed a petition to cut speeding through the village of Avebury.
The parish wants Wiltshire Council to reduce the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph on the A4361 from the Beckhampton roundabout and northwards from Avebury towards Winterbourne Monkton.
The village has recently been given Marlborough area board funding to buy speed indicator equipment.
But it wants more.
Citing reasons for launching the petition, parish chair Stephen Stacey said: "The life of a young man, killed at the wheel of his car in January 2021, probably as a result of his vehicle leaving the road and striking an unprotected tree, might have been spared had there been a lower speed limit."
