BOSCOBEL - The Boscobel School Board has hired Lisa Wallin-Kapinus as the district’s new administrator, effective July 1. Wallin-Kapinus was among three candidates interviewed on Jan. 21. She was offered the two-year contract last Tuesday and accepted it last Thursday, Jan. 28. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve in the Boscobel Area School District,” she said. “My educational career started with the Boscobel District in 1995 when the district game me the opportunity to be a student teacher in the elementary. Two PSC grants sought to expand broadband For Crawford County CRAWFORD COUNTY - There are currently two PSC Broadband Expansion Grants for projects in Crawford County that were filed by the December 1, 2020 deadline. Vernon Communications has submitted a grant application to help them install a fiber-optic-cable-to-the-home system on unserved/underserved subdivision in Ferryville on a bluff above the Mississippi River. Bug Tussel has filed to get a PSC Broadband Expansion Grant to help them build two towers–one in Wauzeka and the other in Steuben to help create a fixed wireless system to deliver internet. The technologies to be used in each grant proposal are entirely different. ....
December 24: News from around the Driftless Area ‘News from Around the Driftless Area’ is a compilation showcasing the excellent work and interesting tidbits from the community journalists sprinkled throughout our area. VIROQUA –The Friends of Vernon County Parks and Forests will be hosting ‘Snowcially distanced’ guided winter walks exploring various Vernon County parks on Saturday afternoons in January and February of 2021. The winter walks and bonfire series are for family and friends of all ages. Walkers are to meet in the park parking lots. All walks will have a volunteer guide and will be approximately 45 minutes to one hour long, with a bonfire to immediately follow. Most walks will begin at 3 p.m., except the January 30 ‘Sidie Stomp,’ which is a collaboration with our friends at Vernon Trails, and will begin at 5 p.m. The Friends of Vernon County Parks encourages walkers to always dress appropriately for the walk and the weather, invite ....
