A proposal to delay a plan to expand parking at Pere Marquette beach that resulted in controversy over tree removal will be voted on April 27, 2021, by the Muskegon City Commission. Part of the proposal involves planting trees to replace those that have died or are dying. The city of Muskegon added 44 angled parking spots on Terrace Street near city hall and the courthouse last year. Now, plans are underway to turn the divided boulevard into a two-lane, two-way street.

MUSKEGON, MI – A major street in downtown Muskegon is in line for some significant changes as part of an ongoing effort to right-size the city’s thoroughfares.
Terrace Street from Apple Avenue to Shoreline Drive will be narrowed by more than half, with most of its boulevard median being removed, according to plans of the city of Muskegon. ....

MUSKEGON, MI – A highly visible old factory near downtown and Muskegon Lake is the site of a redevelopment proposal that features marijuana growing and new apartments.
City staff warned it could be the last chance to save the sprawling building, the former Shaw-Walker factory.
The plans for the property at 920 Washington Ave. and 965 W. Western Ave. are the latest in a series of proposals for the historic factory near Muskegon Lake, which included a large indoor entertainment complex that never came to fruition.
Watermark Center currently includes 53 residential lofts, the Watermark 920 event center and the Coffee Factory eatery. ....

MUSKEGON, MI – Slowdowns and economic insecurity brought on by the pandemic didn’t halt new development in Muskegon in 2020, which saw groundbreaking on a major new building downtown, housing starts throughout the city and new businesses in its Lakeside neighborhood.
“I knew COVID would slow things down, but I did not doubt that Muskegon has positioned itself as a very desirable community to settle in,” Muskegon Mayor Steve Gawron told MLive.
Construction began on a mixed-use residential and commercial building downtown, ground was broken on a 75-unit apartment building near downtown and work has begun on the first of more than 50 condos planned for Muskegon’s lakefront. ....
