Senior housing development eyed in Hancock - The Ellsworth American

Senior housing development eyed in Hancock
HANCOCK — Initial plans are underway for the construction of a 120-home senior housing development on Route 1, about a half-mile west of the Mud Creek Road intersection.
Still in its early stages, the development, called Coastal Estates, was brought before the Planning Board at a May 12 meeting to give the board an introduction and overview of the project. No approvals were granted, and a completed application has not yet been submitted to the board, Chairwoman Katherine Colwell said.
The project, proposed by SFS Development LLC, which includes Randy Sinclair of Sinclair Development Corp. and Steve Fernald of Statewide Property Management, is being represented by Steve Salsbury of Herrick & Salsbury.

Neighbors blast Franklin quarry proposal
FRANKLIN — Following a public hearing that spanned about two hours, the Planning Board decided to extend the public comment period to June 21 for a proposed rock quarry on a 75.5-acre parcel on South Bay Road. The proposal has drawn criticism and concerns from neighbors and abutters.
The extension will give residents more time to make comments while the board waits on additional information it requested from the applicant, TC Gravel LLC in Ellsworth, Planning Board Chairman Brian Abbott explained to The American.
One piece of the requested information is the decibel level of a proposed rock crusher on site, Abbott said.

Gravel pit off North Street can move ahead, planning board rules - The Ellsworth American

Gravel pit off North Street can move ahead, planning board rules
ELLSWORTH — A 10-acre gravel pit off North Street found unanimous Planning Board approval on May 5, following a preliminary application review in April. The pit, which is planned as two pits — an existing 1-acre pit enlarged to 2.3 acres and a second 7.5-acre pit — was proposed by E. Skip Grindle, who operates a landscaping business at 485 North St. Approval is conditional on submission of all required state documents.
Located in the rural and limited residential zones, the project’s preliminary review had raised questions on the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) permit for a new access road off North Street and the presence of vernal pools on the 45-acre site and water quality, as the site borders

Gravel pit permit renewal draws public criticism - The Ellsworth American

Gravel pit permit renewal draws public criticism
LAMOINE —
Comments were heard at the Planning Board’s public hearing Monday night, but no further action was taken regarding the gravel extraction permit application for Harold MacQuinn Inc. to continue operating the Kittredge Pit on Cousin’s Hill off Douglas Highway.
That’s because the applicant, represented by Steve Salsbury of Herrick & Salsbury Inc., an Ellsworth consulting firm, requested that the hearing be postponed until the board’s June meeting when the general contracting company could have its attorney present.
The request got the meeting off to a bit of a tense start.
