Denver Chance trial: Alleged murderer told police officers he feared for his life

He has already pleaded guilty to three charges relating to possession of Class A, B and C drugs, including cocaine and MDMA, for supply or sale.
On Thursday morning, police officers who played a part in Lingman’s arrest outside a bar in Mt Eden on March 10, 2019 took the stand.
Detective Sergeant Michael Frost and Detective Constable Beth Bates told the court Lingman was read his rights multiple times.
Bates said she was seated in the back of the patrol car with Lingman while he was driven to North Shore police station.
Lingman told Bates he was taking 10 pills of diazepam a day for anxiety, the court heard. ....

On Friday afternoon, Ivanha Heynes took the stand, saying she was first messaged by Lingman on Seeking Arrangement – a website for sugar babies and sugar daddies – on the morning of February 24, 2019.

The pair communicated regularly on the site before moving to talk via WhatsApp.
They then met for the first time for lunch at Euro Bar at Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour on March 1.
Heynes said Lingman told her he worked as a “private soldier” and earned about $5000 a day. ....

Denver Chance trial: Google data and CCTV led police to victim's body

Denver Chance was last seen on February 24, 2019 before being reported missing.
On Thursday, police experts told jurors how Google location history tracked Lingman’s phone to the Linwood Rd area in Kingseat, and how he was captured on CCTV travelling there on the day Chance was last seen alive.
Police technical specialist Kerry Baker told the court a backup of Chance’s iPhone was found on his MacBook at the Mairangi Bay property he was living at while he was still considered a missing person.
It allowed police to track his phone s movements - as his phone has never been recovered. ....

About the only thing Denver Chance and the man accused of killing him had in common was a connection to the illegal drug world, a prosecutor says.
Jay Christopher Lingman admitted multiple drug charges on Wednesday morning at Auckland High Court, but denied murdering Chance.
