Six Flags Magic Mountain to Reopen Today

VALENCIA (CNS) - On the first day theme parks are permitted to reopen in California, Six Flags Magic Mountain will fire up its roller coasters and begin welcoming back visitors today.
The park will reopen for members and pass holders Thursday and Friday, then welcome the general public starting Saturday.
Because of coronavirus concerns, tickets and reservations will be available online to California residents only.
Capacity will be limited to 15%, but will be allowed to increase to 25% on Monday, when Los Angeles County enacts loosened restrictions under the orange tier of the state s economic reopening blueprint. ....

Proposition Benefiting Senior and Disabled Homeowners Takes Effect Today

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Starting today, California homeowners who are over the age of 55 or are disabled or victims of a natural disaster can transfer their previous property-tax base when they sell their home and purchase a more expensive one.
“This is good news, Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang said. “Eligible homeowners can now take advantage of the benefits that come from Prop 19, which will give them more flexibility if they choose to move to a home that better suits their needs, even if it s more expensive than their current home.
The benefit, which is part of Proposition 19 approved by voters during the Nov. 3, 2020 election, allows eligible homeowners to transfer their property s assessed value to a home up to three times more expensive. Under the previous law, homeowners could only transfer their base-year assessed value to a home of equal or lesser value. ....

Two City Council Members Seek Report On Journalists' Detention In Echo Park

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Two Los Angeles councilmen today introduced a motion requesting a report from the Los Angeles Police Department on officers detention of journalists during demonstrations last week in Echo Park and the department s broader conduct toward journalists.
“The right of a free press to cover demonstrations, political protest and police activity is essential to a functioning democracy and must be preserved, Councilmen Mike Bonin and Kevin de Leon said in the motion, which was seconded by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez.
The motion cites the detention of several journalists, including the Los Angeles Times James Queally and Spectrum News 1 s Kate Cagle, after they identified themselves and showed press credentials while reporting on the demonstrations at Echo Park Lake last Thursday. ....
