A140 traffic: Police at scene of Stoke Ash motorbike crash | East Anglian Daily Times


A motorcycle and a car have crashed on the A140 at Stoke Ash

There are delays on the A140 in both directions following a crash between a motorcycle and a car.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene of the crash at Stoke Ash around 2.25pm today. 
A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said the motorcyclist, a man, has suffered leg injuries.
She added his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The road was initially blocked in both directions before reopening just after 3.30pm.
Traffic maps show queues have stretched back as far north as Yaxley and Brockford Street to the south. ....

The road would have carried thousands of soldiers marching between what is now Essex and Norfolk during the Roman era, and in 2004, the remains of a Roman settlement were discovered in the Suffolk village of Stoke Ash. Just a stone’s throw away from the A140 road, archaeologists John Fairclough and Mike Hardy found pottery, brooches, coins and other items that date back to the 1st century.
Roman forts 
Here in Suffolk, archaeologists have also uncovered evidence of 1st century Roman forts at both Coddenham and Pakenham.  
“Both are protected, on private land and only visible from the air as crop marks,” explains Faye.    ....
