Defense consolidation spells trouble for America's missile deterrent

Events on the world stage have underscored the need for a reliable and credible strategic missile deterrent. For the first time in history, according to Stratcom Commander Adm. Charles A. Richard, the United States is now facing “two nuclear-capable strategic peer competitors at the same time.”
This rise of China and reemergence of Russia pose the greatest risk to American hegemony since the end of the Cold War. Of great concern is also the fact that while these competitors are on par with the United States with regards to nuclear capabilities, they have surpassed us with other key military technologies. Specifically, advances made by China and Russia with regards to hypersonic missiles have been unmatched by the U.S. military to date. ....

April 28 , 2021 (EIRNS) Over recent days, there has been an escalation of provocations towards the point of danger of breakout into thermonuclear war. Take just the example of the April 20 posting by U.S. Strategic Command for global deterrence and strike, which, in effect, rationalized that war is likely, in their tweet, “The spectrum of conflict today is neither linear nor predictable. We must account for the possibility of conflict leading to conditions which could very rapidly drive an adversary to consider nuclear use as their least bad option,” which was accompanied by Stratcom Commander Adm. Charles Richard declaring to Congress that adversaries China and Russia were arming up, so the U.S. must just get ready and figure on war. ....
