The port city of mariupol. we knew it was gonna be something that the russians strategically were interested in taking. and so, they have surrounded it. they are selling it. they are slowly choking that city. as you said, there was this talk of a humanitarian corridor to be opened up to allow humanitarian aid in and civilians out. it did not last. that cease-fire did not last, even hours, according to ukraine officials who say that bombardment on that city is continuing. now, if you look at the geography of that, you notice russians are pushing up from the north, from crimea. they re trying to create that land bridge that we had heard so much about before the war. it took the city of kherson which is to the west of mariupol. now they sort of moved into mariupol it. seems like fighting is continuing. and it s continued to the north as well. it s the same mo. you have these cities, these ukrainian cities, slowly being choked off. and then, civilian population sort of being bombed in subm ....

People of african decent and south african decent are treated unfairly. have you been in touch with folks who are stuck there and what are you hearing? in kherson, people have been contacting me via twitter or whatsapp telling me the situation of no heat and gas sources. this is still winter and people are freezing. the same issue with the lack of food. i was in contact of someone last week and the maternity moved underground and there were no formulas so we had a massive humanitarian crisis in kherson. it is different than sumy because sumy was along the russian ukrainian border and strategically for the russian forces it was not as important as kherson is which is near the port. so i think the kherson situation ....

Talking about the area near lviv. you worked with the generals fred was talking about. you know them. they are obviously putting up an incredible fight, both strategically and a much more limited supply of weapons. tell me what you know about them. first of all, erin, i d like to refute the statement you made at the very beginning of this. many were surprised at what ukraine s forces were doing. there were a few of us not surprised at all. wee have seen these guys. we have worked with them. they started a program in about 2008 where they started to change their army.mmders on the scene. they knew they were plagued by several things. they had a corrupt general officer core, very core leaders and poorly trained soldiers. much like the russian army does now. so they had some visionaries within the ukrainian force that said we need to change that. the guy i worked with between 2011, 2012, mikhail barobiov ....
