Street Machine weekend brings summer vibe back to Lethbridge

It s been two years since the Street Wheelers Car Club held their annual Street Machine Weekend in Lethbridge.
Luckily they were out in full force this weekend according to the club s President, Alex Dewar.
The cruise on Friday night that we normally do on third ave we were not able to do again this year so it was an uncontrolled cruise that luckily the citizens still chose to participate in which was great, he said.
The Poker Run on Saturday was a huge success and we are currently at capacity right now for our Show & Shine, at around the 500 car mark. ....

The Lethbridge Street Wheelers Street Machine Weekend is back in gear.
After taking place in a limited capacity last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Street Machine Weekend is back with the pedal down.
Although there’s still a bit of pandemic spillover as Alberta moved to Stage 3 of lifted pandemic restrictions at the beginning of the month, Street Wheelers president Alex Dewar noted the excitement of being back in the driver’s seat. ....

Editor: What is the city social contract with tax-paying businesses? The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) has been released. The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) project is again proposed, and again, wants to open a cafÃ© with taxpayer money.
We believe the SAAG, in addition to sports, the Exhibition, Street Wheelers, and others, is one of many important pieces of our tourism draw. These draws pull people in who will use our hotels, restaurants, and shop throughout the City. The SAAG has operated superior programming that has enhanced Lethbridge for the past 30 years. ....

Longtime Lethbridge resident and local realtor Gary Klassen became the latest candidate to declare his intention to run for Mayor of the City of Lethbridge.
Klassen said he has three main reasons for wanting to run as mayor. He wants to stop wasteful spending at the City, work as a consensus builder in an often divided city council, and help out those who are struggling with a compassionate, but firm, approach.
“I would like to get everybody out there working,” he explains. “People that are homeless that don’t have no job– find them jobs. Keep them working. Because a person that’s working has more self-worth than a person who is just hanging out.” ....
